Legal Notes about OpenGEU:

About the name

Geubuntu had to change name in OpenGEU because of the trademarks restrictions adopted by Canonical. This is because for Canonical, only a Remix can have the name “ubuntu” or “buntu” in it for free, without violating any of Canonical’s trademarks. A Remix is an Ubuntu derivate using only softwares available in the official repositories, without any third party or customized software too. Geubuntu, instead, used custom repos and tools created by me and the OpenGEU’s team. That’s why we asked Canonical permission to use the Ubuntu name but after several weeks we received no answer at all. Therefore, to avoid violating any of Canonical’s rights, we change name to OpenGEU from now on, unless Canonical accepts, in the future, Geubuntu as an official Ubuntu derivate. Sorry for this inconvenience. This doesn’t change at all the quality of Geubuntu, now called OpenGEU and you can be sure that we’ll continue hard working on this project.

Third party arts in OpenGEU

Some parts of the OpenGEU design is based on the work of other people; in others cases, OpenGEU uses icons or other art completely created by others artists. Here’s a list of all the included third party art contents of OpenGEU:

  • E17-GTK Theme by Billy Cantrell
  • The wonderful Nightly Blind E17 Theme by David “hesperaux” Bieber and Paul Koether
  • The Glass Icons Theme 0.2 by crparr
  • The Ubuntu_HumanAzul by sympozium
  • This Panorama picture by dash dot
  • This Panorama picture by Leto A
  • The Moonlight GTK Theme has been created by Luca De Marini but it’s based on the ENight GTK theme from Elive.

All of the listed contents where released under the GPL License or under a Creative Commons License, so they could be used freely for this non-commercial Linux distribution. No violation has occurred by including the above contents in OpenGEU. I whant to thanks all of the people who created this material for having released it under a free license. Thanks you so much!
